The Good News Hospital Project in the town of Mandritsara in northern Madagascar is run by the Association of Bible Baptist Churches of Madagascar with whom the Friends of Mandritsara Trust UK (FoMT) partner. The project comprises the Good News Hospital, the Good News School, a radio station and a nursing school. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the love of Jesus by giving every hospital patient, radio listener and school child excellent care and education, along with the good news of Jesus Christ.
The majority of the staff are Malagasy, some from the local area and others from different parts of Madagascar. They are supported by a team of missionaries from overseas and occasional visitors.
We are looking for those whom God may be calling, to volunteer at the Good News Hospital. Doctors of all specialties, for any period, would be considered. However, there is a particularly urgent need for a longer term surgeon, anaesthetist, obstetrician and physician/general practitioner. This is also a great place to serve, in the short to medium-term, for those still in training. We often have junior doctors who come to help and to experience work in a mission hospital context. We organise a period of orientation for new doctors. We use protocols and carry out Continuing Medical Education meetings. We provide supervision and training as required.
You will need to be able to speak, read and write some French as it is the working language of the hospital. This is not a paid role, you will need to raise your own funds for flights and your expenses during your time in Mandritsara. Short-term volunteers generally self-fund and longer term volunteers are sent by a church or missionary organisation. Good quality housing is available locally. There is a teacher who supports the education of missionary children. All workers should have the prayerful support of their home church.
