This training is for everyone who will be involved at any level of healthcare ministry – not just doctors and dentists! Single or married, you need this conference to help you build a strong foundation for your healthcare mission. If you are married, your spouse needs to come with you!
Key topics of discussion include:
• How do I live with a sense of never finishing what “ought to” be done – (caring for self, family, spiritual growth, unending medical need and…) – without feeling inadequate and insecure?
• What will I face as a single or as a married person with a family? Where will I find friends? What about my spouse and kids? How do I (we) survive and even thrive? What about concerns regarding childrens’ schooling, adjustments, socialization, and so many others. Come learn about “the medical missionary family”.
• What are the keys to developing and maintaining empathy, compassion, love and joy in my medical ministry?
• I desire to be “wholistic” but how do I minister to spiritual needs across cultures? What is my role as “healer” and what are the expectations held of me as ‘healer’ in different cultures? It seems easier in the areas of the world open to the Gospel but I feel called to the Unreached countries where the Gospel is not welcome. How do I minister there?
• Have you thought about some key principles for the developing world – accessible, affordable, equitable and sustainable healthcare principles? Have you thought how these critical issues should impact your ministry? We have. Come learn as we share our experiences.
• How do I re-pattern my thinking, re-tool skills, and learn to distribute available resources for the good of the greatest number of people? Does ethics enter into medicine and missions?
• How do I become an effective healthcare team member in the culture I will be entering? Health systems in the developing world require a much greater emphasis on a health-team approach. Learn how to effectively integrate into the health team.
• How do I empower others? What are the keys to not creating dependency but to empowering communities and individuals in healthcare?
• How do I learn and function in crucial areas for which I am not prepared? Success in certain key areas can have major impact on effectiveness, and even on your contentment and fulfillment, in cross-cultural healthcare ministry. What are these areas and where are the resources to help?

This training is designed to create awareness of these important issues and give you opportunity to begin preparing for issues you’ve not yet faced. You already have a great medical education. This training will help you prepare for the stressful and often most frustrating parts of being a healthcare missionary – most are not medically related. The training will begin to prepare you for a successful first term. It is our desire to help first-term missionaries not only survive but actually enjoy all the growing opportunities that await you.
A recent training participant shared regarding the training: “A wealth of godly wisdom, real life experiences and application of Biblical Principals in healthcare mission work. A great chance to spend three and a half wonderful days with David Stevens and others! I would highly recommend this conference to everyone preparing for service in healthcare missions! Most sending organizations offer general orientation but nobody covers information specific for medical personnel as in this training.

Come spend three and a half days with experienced healthcare missionaries, in a small group setting; missionaries who are committed to helping you not only survive but thrive in your career in missions. Resource missionaries, just home from the field, will be available for you to chat with over meals and during breaks.
