Christian Medical & Dental Associations joins in statement with the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine
Bristol, Tenn.—November 3, 2021— The 19,000-member Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), which is the nation’s largest faith-based healthcare organization, announced the release of a joint statement with the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine.
“Abortion is not healthcare,” the statement reads. “As physicians and other healthcare professionals, we know that when we care for pregnant women, we are caring for two distinct patients. Our duty is to protect and preserve the lives of the patients whom we care for. Our patients place their trust in us to recommend what is best for them, regardless of current political or cultural trends.”
As a group, the five organizations in the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine agree that abortion clearly violates the basic tenets of medical ethics. “The fact is that more than 90% of OB/GYN’s do not perform abortions,” the statement continued. “This is because we all recognize abortion for what it really is—the intentional destruction of human life through barbaric methods.”
“This statement is a clear call and challenge for healthcare professionals to boldly defend the lives of all of our patients—including our preborn patients and our pregnant patients,” said CMDA Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Bioethics Dr. Jeff Barrows, who is an OB/Gyn.
The statement continues by saying, “In the nearly 50 years since the Court wrongly decided Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, medical science has progressed significantly and has increasingly supported the pro-life position. It is time that the law of our land caught up with advances in medical science and supported the human rights of all of our patients.”
CMDA is joined in the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine by the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Pediatricians, the Catholic Medical Association and the Coptic Medical Association of North America.
