Kim Colby
Since graduating from Harvard Law School in 1981, She has worked for the Christian Legal Society’s Center for Law & Religious Freedom, where she currently serves as its Director. Founded in 1975, the Center was instrumental in passage of three key federal laws to protect religious freedom: the Equal Access Act of 1984, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 and the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000. She was co-counsel for religious student groups seeking access to a public high school campus and a public law school campus in two cases heard by the United States Supreme Court and has been co-counsel on dozens of friend-of-the-court briefs filed in that Court as well as in lower federal and state courts. She has testified about religious freedom matters three times before the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, as well as once before the United States Commission on Civil Rights. In 2019, she served on the Faith-based Entities Subcommittee as part of the Department of Education’s Negotiated Rulemaking for Higher Education, 2018-2019. Colby received her B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
