Join us for a regional dinner at CMDA headquarters from 6:30-8:30 pm where guests will enjoy fellowship and a presentation by Dr. Amy Givler titled “Treating Chronic Pain Without Opioids”.

The presentation will:

  • Describe the pathway of pain, both acute and chronic, and the contribution of the brain in modulating pain perception
  • Examine the pros and cons of various modalities and medications in the treatment of chronic pain
  • Discuss the role of opioids in the treatment of pain, both acute and chronic

Dr. Amy Givler is an assistant clinical professor of Family Medicine at Ochsner/LSU-Shreveport in Monroe, Louisiana. She is on the Board of Trustees of CMDA and served previously as Chair of CMDA’s WPDC commission, and serves currently on its on Marriage Enrichment commission. Dr. Givler received her B.A. from Wellesley College and her M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Givler has made a lifelong study of physical, emotional, and spiritual pain and suffering, and has written multiple articles and has taught frequently on various aspects of this subject. She is the author of Hope in the Face of Cancer: A Survival Guide for the Journey You Did Not Choose.
