The Importance of Self-Care During Training

About Our Guest

Erica Brown, a San Diego native, resides in the vibrant DFW area with her husband, daughter, and three beloved canine companions. Currently in her third year of medical school, Erica’s journey has led her to the bedside, where she daily engages with patients and their families, affirming her faith and purpose in healthcare. Her path to medical school was guided by her previous roles in Patient Safety with the military and Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control, experiences she believes were part of God’s plan to shape her overall character. Her connection with CMDA began when her local chapter requested a student to present research findings at the National Convention. She firmly believes this was another divinely orchestrated opportunity, as she instantly felt a sense of belonging and inspiration within CMDA.

As a medical student, how important it is to be aware of one's Mental health. How can we as students promote and actively support this among colleagues and our community? Bill Reichart and Erica Brown, an M3 at TCU in Ft. Worth, discuss her journey to medical school and the importance of self-care, balance and the importance of Christian community during the challenging years of medical school training.
