Foolishness to the Geeks: The Unreasonable Value of Christian Faith in the Age of Medical Artificial Intelligence

Healthcare professionals are invited to attend a regional dinner to learn and interact with local colleagues in the ever-changing area of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Dr. Cheshire will present several examples where artificial intelligence has shown promise in improving the efficient and accurate diagnosis of a disease, discuss how verbal communication by artificial intelligence both resembles and differs from that by humans, and explain the concept of human exceptionalism and how it relates to moral responsibility and to development of trust.

Dinner: $20

Buffet style dinner which includes:

William P. Cheshire, M.D., is a professor of neurology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. In his 32 years on faculty, he has served as Autonomic Neurology Division Director, Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory Director, President of the Staff, Chair of the Ethics Committee, and currently Associate Director of the Program in Professionalism and Values. He is a past president of the American Autonomic Society. He received his AB in Biochemical Sciences from Princeton University, his MA in Bioethics from Trinity International University, and his MD from West Virginia University. He completed his residency in Neurology and fellowship in Pain Management at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Cheshire also serves on the board of trustees of CMDA and is a past chair of its ethics committee.
