West Coast Winter Conference

Take a break from the challenges of your life and practice and join your colleagues for a special time of refreshment and renewal, worship and teaching in that iconic town of Cannon Beach, Oregon. You share something unique with your Christian healthcare colleagues as with no other friends or church folks. Join us to learn, to interact, to question, to grow and to worship with your healthcare colleagues.

Worship with “Larry and the Band” and glean truth and principles from God’s Word in eight teaching sessions over four days.

If you travel any great distance, you will appreciate that we start on Thursday night along with three extra sessions for those who can come one day early.

The main conference starts on Friday night at 8pm.

PLEASE NOTE: Students/Student Spouses are not charged a registration fee, but they will pay $95 per person for their lodging and meals (which is less than half of the actual cost) to Cannon Beach Conference Center. An iconic destination, Cannon Beach, OR boasts the third largest monolithe Seastack in the world, Haystack Rock, and features a flat, delightful, walkable, three-mile sandy beach provides the perfect place to get away and enjoy the Oregon Coast, rain or shine. And usually, January provides a window of remarkable weather for this event. Google Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach and look at the beautiful vistas. The town of Cannon Beach features many artists, great food and activities including kite flying for all levels, horseback riding, e-bikes to rent, three miles of flat sandy beach for walking and running, and several other beach towns close by with historical sites to enjoy. Some beaches nearby allow you to drive on the sand! Since 1968, Oregon is one of the few states where all beaches, up to the vegetation line, allow the public complete access! What a gift!

Farr Curlin, MD is Josiah Trent Professor of Medical Humanities in the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, & History of Medicine and Co-Director of the Theology, Medicine and Culture Initiative (TMC) at Duke University. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities. Dr. Curlin received his BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his MD from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Before moving to Duke in 2014, he founded and was Co-Director of the Program on Medicine and Religion at the University of Chicago. At Duke, Dr. Curlin practices hospice and palliative medicine, and he works with colleagues across the university to develop opportunities for education and scholarship at the intersection of theology, medicine and culture. He has authored more than 150 articles and book chapters dealing with the moral and spiritual dimensions of medical practice, and is co-author of, The Way of Medicine: Ethics and the Healing Profession, from Notre Dame Press (2021).
Cory Wilson, MD, MA in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics, lives and works in Southern California.  His wife, Michal, is a psychologist, and his two adult sons, Caleb and Joshua, live in Southern California as well.  Cory works full-time in Urgent Care for Southern California Permanente Medical Group. He is interested in and speaks on issues at the intersection of Christian theology, philosophy, and medicine, focusing most closely on philosophy of mind and the mind-body problem.
T, MD & J are medical workers who spent over 20 years in subsaharan Africa, then returned to the US to further their kids’ education while T worked in academic clinical medicine.  After almost a decade, they returned, this time to a Northern African country, where they have been providing care in remote settings.  They hope to team with others in the capital to become more involved in training nationals, while being salt and light in a very unreached setting
Sue Rutherford, MD is Medical Director of 3W Medical for Women in Seattle, Washington. She is a lifetime member of CMDA and AAPLOG.  Dr. Rutherford received her MD at the University of Washington and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (permanent) and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (retiring 2024).  She has served as Medical Director and provided clinical care and practitioner education at a life-affirming reproductive health clinic in Seattle since 2016.  She also teaches a national course on limited ultrasound applicable to pregnancy medical centers.

Children/Youth Program

The Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center staff provide a wonderful children and youth program for infants through high school beginning Friday evening through Sunday noon during each teaching session.

Cost:

First child:  $35

Second child: $35

Three or more children: No charge

There is no charge for children of students and residents to use the Children/Youth Program.

Note: Remember to drop off your children 15 minutes early and don’t forget to pick them up after each session!
