The American College of Family Medicine and the Fight for Hippocratic Medicine

Meet Our Guest(s):
Joe Dougherty, MD is the founding program director of the Butler Family Medicine Residency. Previously, he was the Associate Program Director of another Family Medicine residency as well as Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. He spent 6 years as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates. His special interests include musculoskeletal care, throwing biomechanics, and free market medicine.
Dr. Dougherty is a board member and co-founder of the American College of Family Medicine, a physician organization whose mission is to promote and defend the principles of Hippocratic Family Medicine.
He enjoys traveling, music, playing and watching sports, and exercising. He was a high school baseball coach for nearly a decade.
Magen Hicks, DO is about to graduate from FM-OB residency at Waco Family Medicine. She grew up in an Air Force family and was homeschooled by her stay-at-home mom. She attended university at St. Mary’s in San Antonio and medical school in Fort Worth at UNT Health (TCOM). She and her husband met at their church in Fort Worth and God has blessed them with three beautiful boys (0, 2 and 3). Her hobbies include spending as much time with her kids as possible while in residency, singing for her church, and fighting for equal protection for the unborn. She’ll be starting her first attending job as an FM-OB in Wyoming this August.
Janet Hurley, MD, MBA, FAAFP is a Christian family physician and author who has practiced for 23 years in Northeast Texas. She has over two decades of experience of leadership in medical trade associations and is currently the President of the American College of Family Medicine. She recently released a book entitled Healing Faith: Empowering Wellness Through Spiritual Warfare, which leverages the power of spiritual warfare to improve patient health. She has been married for 32 years and has two adult children.
