The Hidden Cost of Excellence: Dr. Bill Claytor on Burnout, Perfectionism, and Faith in Dentistry and Healthcare
Dr. Bill Claytor, a dentist, educator, and Executive Director of North Carolina Caring Dental Professionals, joins host Dr. Mike Chupp and co-host Dr. Bill Griffin, CMDA’s Senior Vice President, for a conversation on what so many in healthcare quietly wrestle with: the perfectionism, isolation, and burnout that can take root when the drive to serve others becomes something heavier. A nationally recognized voice on clinician wellbeing and recipient of the American Dental Association’s 2025 Distinguished Service Award, Dr. Claytor brings both professional expertise and personal insight to a topic the profession doesn’t always make room to discuss openly.

What an honor it is to see how the Lord is working through your CMDA. There are over 40 ministries part of CMDA and our fiscal year end goal of $1.1 million supports these ministries that serve others across the street and around the world. In fact, last year, 878 of you served on 62 mission teams bringing the love of Christ to 28 nations. Your CMDA is there educating, encouraging, equipping healthcare students and professionals to glorify God and also protecting the vulnerable from the preborn to the elderly. Your most generous gift by June 30 helps ensure that these ministries continue to grow and serve more. To give your gift today, visit CMDA.org/give or call our Stewardship Team at 888.230.2637. Together, we are transforming healthcare for Christ.
If CMDA’s mission moves your heart, we’d love for you to consider going even deeper. Something exciting is happening at CMDA. Healthcare professionals across the country are stepping up and becoming lifetime members of CMDA at a record pace, and we want to invite you to join them. This is more than a membership.
