GLP-1s: A Theological & Ethical Look at Weight Loss, Human Limits, and Flourishing

In part two of this conversation on GLP-1 receptor agonists, Dr. Mike Chupp is joined by Dr. Kymberli Cook, a systematic theologian, Assistant Director of the Hendricks Center, and adjunct professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, to explore the deeper theological and ethical dimensions of these medications. Dr. Cook specializes in theological anthropology, the study of what it means to be human in relation to God, and brings that lens to bear on some of medicine’s most pressing questions: Are our creaturely limits something to overcome or embrace? Where does therapy end and enhancement begin? And how should Christian healthcare professionals faithfully navigate the medical and technological advancements that increasingly shape our bodies, our limitations, and our health? This episode invites you to move beyond the clinical conversation and consider what it means to be a faithful steward of the bodies God has given us.

Since 1931, faithful members have made sure that Christian healthcare professionals never have to go it alone. What began in a dorm room at Northwestern University has grown, by God’s grace, into a worldwide movement. Today, your CMDA stands at the center of healthcare missions and serves as a leading Christian voice in healthcare—speaking to the church, to government, and to the culture. And that legacy continues because of generous people like you. As we approach the close of our fiscal year on June 30, we’re grateful to share that we’ve already received more than $550,000 in gifts and commitments toward our $1.1 million goal. That’s incredible momentum. But we’re not there yet—and these final weeks truly matter. Every gift from this point forward helps ensure that healthcare professionals and trainees are equipped to live out their faith boldly in the places they’re called to serve. If you’ve been considering making a special gift to advance the mission of your CMDA. We could really use your help before June 30. Please join us in carrying this 95-year legacy forward. Don’t wait—give before June 30 at cmda.org/give. Or call a member of our Stewardship Team at 888.230.2637.
